The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC), Office of Space and Building Management, Building Management Division is seeking to fill a Maintenance Mechanic position at the Wage Grade -10 (WG-10). The position will be located in Washington, DC. Relocation support will not be authorized.

Position Description:

This position performs tasks which include the operation, maintenance, and repair of Herbert C. Hoover Building plumbing systems, fixtures, fittings, and equipment. 

Position will also perform repairs to doors, masonry, roofs, windows, and performance of carpentry and painting services as well as small asbestos abatement projects.

Qualifications for WG-10

You must have knowledge and application of plumbing and pipefitting, painting, woodworking, structural and finishing work.  Skill in the operation of trade, craft, and labor tools and equipment.  Ability to plan, layout, setup and complete work independently, utilizing the full range of standard equipment and tools.  Ability to interpret and apply blueprints, diagrams, engineering sketches.

The work requires heavy physical exertion such as frequent climbing of ladders or scaffolds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas, and lifting and carrying of heavy objects weighing up to 20 and occasionally weighing up to 40 pounds.
