2017 Veterans Day Message from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management
On Saturday, November 11, 2017, we will pay tribute to our Nation’s veterans and honor their dedicated service and sacrifice to our country. In the recent words of President Donald J. Trump:
"We are here to hold you up as an example of strength, courage, and resolve that our country will need to overcome the many challenges that we face. We are here to draw inspiration from you as we seek to renew the bonds of loyalty that bind us together as one people and one Nation."
At the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), we too hold you up and continue to honor our commitment to you by improving resources and promoting employment opportunities for veterans in the Federal workforce. The Veterans Services Office at OPM strives every day to reach out to veterans, transitioning service members, Federal agencies, Veterans Services Organizations, and other stakeholders to support veteran hiring in the Federal Government.
I want to personally thank you and your families, not only for your great sacrifice, but also for your willingness to step forward to serve us all. I am proud that more than 30 percent of the Federal workforce is comprised of veterans, transferring the skills, talents, knowledge, and drive of our Nation’s veterans from the military into continuing their service to the American people in the Government.
My father was a Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps (predecessor to the U.S. Air Force). He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals for his service in the Pacific Theatre in WWII. He rejoined Federal service when he was discharged and served about 40 years at the U.S. Postal Service. The pride I feel for him and everyone who has served our Nation is immeasurable.
I close in leaving you with another statement from President Trump at the recent National Convention of the American Legion:
"Every veteran here today is part of a long, unbroken chain of American heroes. We salute your service."
