The U.S. Economic Development Administration (www.eda.gov) is an operating bureau within the U.S. Department of Commerce with seven offices: headquarters in Washington, DC, and six regional offices across the U.S. (Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Denver, Philadelphia, and Seattle).
The mission of the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) is to lead the federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness, preparing regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy.
EDA executes its mission through grants and technical assistance to communities across the country in order to generate new employment, help retain existing jobs, and stimulate industrial and commercial growth.
EDA is the only federal government agency solely focused on economic development. The EDA is looking for an energetic and innovative individual who will enjoy working in a dynamic and mission-driven organization to serve as the Economic Development Representative.
This position is located at field sites away from the Regional Offices to which assigned, but within the geographic jurisdiction of the Regional Offices in the Economic Development Administration (EDA), Department of Commerce. These EDR positions are located:

This position is located in field sites away from the Regional Offices to which assigned, but within the geographic jurisdiction of the Regional Offices in the Economic Development Administration (EDA), Department of Commerce. The incumbents will assist economically-distressed areas of the U. S. in stimulating industrial and commercial growth.
The individuals selected for this position will perform the following duties:
Serves as first line of contact on development activity related to all EDA programs, advises applicants and grantees, establishes planning coordinating activities and implementation of projects in his/her area.
Represents the agency authoritatively to key government and business officials and organizations plans and manages delivery of major, high priority products and services which are central to agency objectives.
Communicates with all levels of the employing organization; other involved federal agencies and institutions; state and local governments; key officials of businesses and of business/industry association; with foreign counterparts; and with congressional staff personnel.
Performs complex business and program management regulatory oversight or similar work requiring an understanding of associated functions of mission elements critical to agency priorities and objectives.
Analyzes and communicate sound and authoritative recommendations on highly complex and sensitive economic development business/industry issues/policies, applying creativity, judgment, and recognized expertise to realize key objectives.
Manages economic development financial assistance project development and application/proposal pipeline for assigned areas of responsibility.
To qualify for the GS-13 grade level you must have one full year of specialized experience. You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience may include one or more of the following:
- Experience consulting on/collaborating with or preparation of projects for financial assistance from Federal, State and local agencies
- Demonstrated experience with federal and state agencies, local governments and universities in preparing economic development assistance applications; addressing application deficiencies; and administering projects emphasizing long-term economic development
- Experience developing relationships, networks and coalitions with proponents and/or stakeholders to ensure a continuous inventory of potential investment projects that address economic development
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
