The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of Housing is seeking qualified veterans eligible for non-competitive hiring in the Federal government to fill a Staff Assistant, GS-0301-09/11, located in Washington, DC.
The incumbent of this position provides highly confidential administrative services to the Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) for Operations within the Office of Housing. The incumbent reviews and processes all confidential personnel actions for signature by the DAS; manages procedures and systems that will insure the prompt and efficient management and control of all documents in the office, particularly reports and clearance issuances originating both within and outside the DAS offices.
To successfully fulfill the requirements of this position, applicants are expected to possess the skill sets listed below:
1. Ability to independently handle multiple actions on any given day and coordinate work with other offices as required.
2. Ability to complete routine assignments such as identifying problems, gathering relevant information, describing the problems and possibly recommending solutions.
3. Ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and courteously, both orally and in writing.
4. Ability to research, analyze, and evaluate data for response.
As a Staff Assistant in the Office of Housing for the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Operations, you will:
Serve as a buffer and act as a liaison between the DAS and staff by providing accurate and timely advice on procedures, reports, requirements, and other matters necessary to implement the policies, directives, and instructions
Review incoming mail requiring the personal attention of the DAS. Coordinate clearance documents and other materials originating in the office of the DAS to ensure consistency. Review all documents prior to the submission to the DAS for action. Screen office calls and visitor to inquire about the nature of assistance. Make travel arrangements and prepare travel vouchers when required. Manages the electronic calendar for the DAS and track time and attendance status in the Department’s time keeping system.
To qualify for the GS-9, you must have the equivalent experience or education that has equipped you with the skill sets to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience would include, screening calls and visitors, receiving and reviewing documents for accuracy, and or tracking time and attendance electronically; OR
Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.B. or J.D.
To qualify for the GS-11, you must have experience equivalent to the GS-09 that includes providing a full range of customer service functions such as responding to complaints/problems, diagnosing and fixing problems, resolving customer complaints, providing technical information; OR
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M.
