The Office of Facilities & Environmental Quality (OFEQ) is looking for bright, energetic, and results-oriented individuals to join our fast-paced organization.  OFEQ is a team of professionals who provide quality support services to Department of Commerce employees, enabling them to focus on their core missions. OFEQ specialties include building management, real estate and energy and environmental management.

The selected candidate will serve as an architect, in the Space Management Division (SMD) of OFEQ.

Position Description

The selected candidate will be responsible for Architect duties which include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide space planning, design and construction services for all agencies housed in the Herbert C. Hoover Building. Manage multiple office renovation projects coordinating activities of multidisciplinary teams from inception to completion. Technical advisor on complex architectural issues, including MEP, ADA and all Health, Safety and Welfare matters. Serves as an authority and expert consultant in the field of Architectural/ Engineering/Construction Contracts, including developing Scopes of Works. Coordinates Space Management work with GSA, including Reimbursable Work Authorizations, and the Office of Building Renovation.
  • Advises on, administers, or performs research and design work for the creation, construction, alteration, rehabilitation, or restoration of buildings and facilities. Reviews project leads’ drawings for technical accuracy and adherence to all applicable codes and departmental policy. A professional knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of architecture is required.

Qualifications

Applicants must have 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-10) or equivalent band in the Federal service.

Additionally, a Degree or Combination of education and experience is required.

Degree: architecture; or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental

OR

Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following:

Specialized experience is that which equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and should include MOST of the following work activities such as, but not limited to:

Planning, developing, approving, and implementing architectural designs for interior refurbishments of commercial buildings;

Managing interior office refurbishment projects, including formulating scopes of work, generating schedules, developing architectural floorplans/schematics, formulating budgets, procuring interior office furnishings and materials, and overseeing refurbishment construction;

Optimizing space and architectural design of office spaces to maximize available office space and workspace ergonomics;

Leading people and negotiating with customers to meet the organization's vision, mission, and goals;

Building coalitions within an agency, other agencies, and private sector organizations to achieve common goals.
