is looking for highly motivated candidates at the GS-09 level to join the
Region 8 Laboratory team.
Provide inorganic analytical support to EPA programs. Prepares reports of analytical results. Regional samples are consistently
analyzed to allow project completion within agreed upon time period. Analytical reports are completed at least one
week before due date to allow for QC review.
Communication with client is maintained in a reasonable manner and due
date delays are discussed. Reports will
be technically/scientifically accurate. Reports will be prepared using a
government supplied equipment and in accordance with lab guidelines/direction
as to style and format. Any unusual results and/or problem areas are clearly
and fully explained.
Deviations/omissions/exceptions/failures will be documented in the case
narrative. Maintains instruments to achieve
maximum precision, accuracy and productivity, complies with analytical QC
requirements, and follows health and safety procedures. Always performs required/necessary
preventive maintenance functions on own initiative. Performs required operator maintenance. Diagnoses equipment malfunctions and
demonstrates a good understanding of equipment operation. Ensures that instruments achieve required
detection limits. Follows required QC procedures to validate analytical
results. Employees shall use safety and personal protective equipment. They
shall attend and participate in safety and health training/activities,
environmental compliance training/activities, and environmental management
training/activities. Employees shall utilize appropriate engineering controls
and the latest available technology to reduce hazardous exposures to the lowest
levels practical. Employees shall stay
in compliance and current with the laboratory Chemical Hygiene Plan and all
related standard operation procedures.
BS in Chemistry or higher. At least 1 year experience as a GS-7
Chemist. Team oriented scientist to work
in a fast paced environmental laboratory.
Good communication skills, scientific background a must, and willing to
learn and develop new analytical techniques
Degree: physical sciences, life sciences,
or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by
course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at
least 6 semester hours of physics.
Combination of education and experience -- course work
equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours
in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral
calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience
or additional education.
