I am an Honorably Discharged Veteran of the United States Army Signal Corp. After my time served in 1981, it was my goal to become a Social Worker and work for the Federal Government and with fellow veterans in some capacity. After years of some college and even more of life's path, I happened into the Detroit VAMC for my own medical needs and was impressed with the environment.
In 2008 I availed myself to the Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) Program which is a therapeutic program for veterans with Disabilities. I worked with the veterans in the Nursing Home area of the Medical Center until August 2010. While able to accomplish closing a gap in my resume and after about 1 and 1/2 years of a gratifying work experience and the ability to network, my opportunity was rewarded with yet another gratifying opportunity.
It was in April of 2011, that I became employed by the Federal Government through my previous manager of the CWT Program.
President Obama's Administration gave birth to an initiative to get veterans off the streets and into work. I am so blessed to be one of his soldiers, if you will, to assist in carrying out that initiative. My name is Denise Solomon and I am one of (5) under this program at the John D. Dingell Medical Center. In two years of this new program, I am soon to become a GS-9 Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist.
