The mission of the Department of Education is to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access.
Mr. Fred J. Bortz serves as the Veteran Employment Program Manager within the U.S. Department of Education (ED), and also serves as the DVAAP representative for the agency. He is responsible for promoting employment opportunities for Veterans, consistent with Executive Order 13518, which includes developing, administering, and coordinating ED’s Veterans Employment Program. This consists of developing a operational plan for outreach to Veterans, Veteran Service Organizations, Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Labor, military organizations, and the Office of Personnel Management. In addition, he conducts analysis and assessments of ED’s Veterans Outreach program; making recommendations for improving the employment, advancement, and retention of Veterans, and providing advice and assistance to Veterans seeking employment within ED. Mr. Bortz’s professional career includes many years working within the Disability field. Prior to that, he received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Sociology from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
