The mission of the Department of Defense is to provide the military forces needed to deter war and to protect the security of our country.

Dr. Wilander serves as the Veterans Outreach Program Manager for the Department of Defense (DoD) in the Defense Civilian Personnel Advisory Service (DCPAS), Recruitment Assistance Division (RAD). In this position, Dr. Wilander is responsible for promoting the Executive Order 13518 Employment of Veterans in Federal Government and working with senior DoD leadership within DCPAS and the Veterans representatives for the major DoD Components (Department of the Army, Department of the Air Force, Department of the Navy, and the 4th Estate Agencies) on issues involving the recruitment, employment, development, training, and retention of Veterans, transitioning Service Members and military spouses.
Prior to joining RAD, Dr. Wilander worked in the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) as a Human Resources Specialist from 2002 to 2011 and is recognized within the Federal Executive Branch of Federal Government as the subject matter expert on the Veterans Preference Act of 1944, as amended, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), Nepotism and the Veterans Employment Opportunities Act (VEOA). Before joining OPM, Dr. Wilander worked for DoD, United States Marine Corps as a management analyst in the Total Force Structure Division, Marine Corps Combat Development Command, Quantico, Virginia.
As a seasoned Veteran, Dr. Wilander served on active duty in the United Marine Corps for 25 years from 1973 through 1998 where some his assignments included First Sergeant in 3rd Battalion 12th Marines and Inspector & Instructor Duty with the Light Armored Reconnaissance Unit at Quantico, Virginia; Senior Enlisted Advisor; Equal Opportunity Advisor; Senior Academic Coordinator, Series Gunnery Sergeant. Senior Drill Instructor and Drill Instructor at 3rd Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC; Recruiting Station Midway as Supervisor and Recruiter; Marine Barracks Atsugi, Japan; and Ground Support Equipment mechanic within theVMA-214 Blacksheep Squadron.

Adjusting the Text Size


The FedsHireVets website allows you to change the text size through standard browser settings or keyboard shortcuts:

Standard Browser Settings

Internet Explorer

  1. In the View menu, mouse over to Text Size
  2. Select the Text Size that best works for you: Largest to Smallest

Firefox

From the View menu, select Zoom, then Zoom In or Zoom Out to increase or decrease the font size.
Note: For Firefox 4+, your full menu bar will need to be enabled; you cannot complete the previous instructions with the minimized/hidden menu bar.

Chrome

Temporarily change the font size for the current window:

  1. From the Tools menu (the wrench in the upper right-hand corner), click Zoom + or Zoom -.

Permanently change the font size for all Chrome windows:

  1. From the Tools menu (the wrench in the upper right-hand corner), select Options.
  2. From the Under the Hood tab, scroll down to Web Content, and select the appropriate Font Size.
  3. Close the Under the Hood tab and return to your content.


Use Keyboard Shortcuts

In Windows, use the following keyboard shortcuts:

Increase: Ctrl-plus sign ( + ) or Ctrl-equals sign ( = )
Decrease: Ctrl-minus sign ( - )
Return to default font size: Ctrl-0 (zero)

In Mac OS X, use the Command key instead of Ctrl.
